War games are being waged up and down the Queensland coast this month as part of Exercise Talisman Sabre – the largest event of its kind ever held in Australia.
While a dazzling array of assets are on display from the US armed forces and Australia’s other allies, there are also some signals about the kind of contingencies Australia’s best military brains are preparing for.
There’s a huge Japanese presence as an official part of the exercise and reports that a Chinese spy ship is sitting off the coast of Australia to monitor what’s going on.
Reporter Andy Park was the only Australian journalist embedded with HMAS Adelaide in Queensland to bring you this exclusive story about how Australia’s defence forces are thinking and planning.
