CLIP DESCRIPTION:
David (Matthew Broderick) teaches Joshua the no-win game of Tic Tac Toe and, in the process, averts global thermonuclear war.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Once more, a wise-guy teenager tries to prove he’s smarter than any adult-and nearly destroys the whole world in the process-in Wargames. Computer-game aficionado Matthew Broderick inadverently taps into a hush-hush Pentagon computer, then proceeds to inaugurate his favorite game, “Global Thermonuclear War”. What we know, but Broderick doesn’t, is that the Pentagon, hoping to eliminate the chancy “human element” in the event of an actual war, has given its computer total, irreversable control over the launching of nuclear weaponry. Broderick and government official Dabney Coleman race against time to reverse the computer’s resolve to send bombers to Russia. Wargames scored a hit, especially with teenage filmgoers.

  1. You Entered An Old Password

Your password was changed from either this computer, or another computer on the same network that you are currently on, about a minute ago

    Request a new password.?%

  2. There is at least one way to win. Never made sense to me that that was the game this film chose to be "futile"
If your first two moves are in opposite corners, you win:
    X |__ |__
    __ |__ |__
    | |
Doesn't matter where your opponent goes (unless they take your next move but I'll do that later) so I'll just choose the other corner:
    X |__ |O
    __ |__ |__
    | |

    X |__ |O
    __ |__ |__
    | |X
Opponent is forced to block you in the middle:
    X |__ |O
    __ |O |__
    | |X
Then place your third in the remaining corner:
    X |__ |O
    __ |O |__
    X | |X
You have two opportunities to win, no matter which they block:

    X |__|O X |__|O
    X |O |__ O |O |__
    X |O |X X |X |X

Only way this doesn't work is if opponents first move is in the opposite corner:
    X |__ |__
    __ |__ |__
    | |O
Then just change it up a little, filling the remaining corners:
    X |__ |X X |O |X X |O |X
    __ |__ |__ __ |__ |__ __ |__ |__
    | |O | |O X | |O
Then same situation, they can't block both:
    X |O |X X |O |X
    O |X |__ X |O |__
    X | |O X | |O

    You win!

  3. Yo vi una película de Mathew Broderick donde solucionaban todo jugando al ta te ti… (8)

  4. It's kinda interesting that they got the idea of AI playing with itself to learn. Nowadays, there are lots of AI projects where a computer will play itself in a game like Chess or Go billions of times over to learn the optimal strategies.

  5. oddly annoyed the final code isn't _O_PE

  6. Hard to remember how exotic computers were in 1983.

  7. It's easy to win at tic tac toe, you just break one of your opponent's fingers every time he makes an optimal move. "New strategy: let the wookie win."

  8. everytime I see WOPR I think of burger King

  9. technically the same thing would happen with chess playing it self unless it was specifically programmed to change strategies… which something advanced as that probably was since it is borderline sentient.

  10. The adolescent boy asks a grown man, "Is there anyway to make it play with itself?"

"…Uh, Give the computer a peep hole into the girls locker room…"

  11. Heck i can not win at tic tac toe either i suck at it lol

  12. Also once a nuclear missile starts to launch its completely autonomous turning off the computer or breaking it etc wont work I've watched a actual training video on thjs

  13. When you have serious anxiety and someone asks you to make a simple yes or no decision.

  14. “Joshua, start slowly for added drama”

  15. Make it play with itself? I've been doing that for years and I never learn.

  16. Of course the actual take away lesson from Tic Tac Toe is "he who strikes first wins"…

  17. Jerry Dean Rice II dba rice company ii holdings says:

    Major viper's kc2075 wargames a. I. 2515 what's is up YWHYAM8W define all four questions

  18. Jerry Dean Rice II dba rice company ii holdings says:

Wargames a. I. Reads only command line from major viper's wargames YWHYAM8W system read only

  19. A rocket with a jet engine sound effect lol

  20. This is Google assistant fav film

  21. [Outsider Looking In…Do Not Shoot The Messenger]
If they disconnect the computer, the local systems would take that to me NORAD had been destroyed and launch automatically.

But the computer having a short and burning out is NOT interpreted as NORAD being destroyed?
I guess in the original cut the missiles launched anyway?

  22. I'm here from AH's Please, Don't Touch Anything latest video.

  23. Is the WOPR (Joshua) just Edgar from "Electric Dreams"??????????

  24. Fun fact: you can’t crack the launch codes digit by digit. It’s not like a safe.

  25. I drink turpentine and piss on a spark plug if I thought it would help

  26. 0:52 Looks at random flashing lights, pretends to notice something important ! 🤣
0:54 Turns the corner too fast, hit the machine, which shakes in all its length

  27. there is only one problem with the tic tac toe analogy -there is actually a way you can't lose and you can some times win-if you take any of the corners and your opponent doesn't take the spot on either side of you you can for his next move to be a block and then set up 2 winning moves he can only block one, if he does choose his second move to be right beside yours then the games a draw -this does mean you have to go first but thats the point there is a way to win but the computer in that game was always going with the center first.

  28. I like the way Falken seems to find the whole thing amusing.

  29. I love the guy smoking. End of the world coming. I would do the same!

  30. No response from Norrad, means destroyed, carry out last command = launch

  31. What happens when it figures out its a loop and what happens when it know you were going to put it into a loop? What then?? There will be no more distractions.

  32. Jerry Dean Rice II dba rice company ii holdings says:

    YHYAQKNV & 98RZRC4T cia questions

  33. You know that you can 100% win tic tac toe if you start first right?
