David (Matthew Broderick) and Jennifer (Ally Sheedy) hack into the computer and initiate a game of “Global Thermonuclear War.”

Once more, a wise-guy teenager tries to prove he’s smarter than any adult-and nearly destroys the whole world in the process-in Wargames. Computer-game aficionado Matthew Broderick inadverently taps into a hush-hush Pentagon computer, then proceeds to inaugurate his favorite game, “Global Thermonuclear War”. What we know, but Broderick doesn’t, is that the Pentagon, hoping to eliminate the chancy “human element” in the event of an actual war, has given its computer total, irreversable control over the launching of nuclear weaponry. Broderick and government official Dabney Coleman race against time to reverse the computer’s resolve to send bombers to Russia. Wargames scored a hit, especially with teenage filmgoers.

  1. Is this a game or is it real? What's the difference? It's true, it doesn't matter if it's real or not, as long as it gets the desired result which is fear, fear being the most profound, crippling human emotion

  2. What year was David's IMSAI computer originally released in?

  3. President Reagan saw the movie and asked, “Could something like this really happen? Could someone break into our most sensitive computers?” The answer came back a week later: “Mr. President, the problem is much worse than you think.” That led not only to a significant revamp of how computer security was handled at the Defense Department, but also passage of an anti-hacking law…

  12. I started "phreaking" in 1985. I've already had an entire career in the digital underground and retired in 2006. I have been "planning" on writing a book for years about everything, the good, the bad, and the very bad. Breaking into banks, schools, corporations, etc. Not physically though. Think "War Games", this movie, and that is exactly how I was. Anyway, I procrastinate a lot now and I will likely never write that book. I want to though.

Aehy said to Dad to mount the bread board/circuit board on rubber bushes DR1 rubber then you can use the shoebox main driver as a weapon basically smash someone over the head with it ha ha…
